
Fishing The Northwoods Is Focus Of
Nicolet College’s Musky Seminar
RHINELANDER, Wisconsin — With only a month to go until Nicolet College’s annual Musky Seminar, organizers have announced the seminar lineup.
Nicolet’s Musky Seminar will be held Saturday, March 22, at the Northwoods Center on the college campus, locate one mile south of Rhinelander just off Hwy. G. The event starts at 9 a.m. Six different hour-classes are planned for the event, plus an end-of-the-day question and answer session with the guides involved in the program.
“We plan to focus heavily on fishing our northwoods musky lakes,” said Steve Heiting, Fishing Hall of Famer and the event’s lead presenter. “This year we’re dissecting some of the hundreds of musky lakes found in northern Wisconsin and discuss when, where and how an angler can be most effective on them.
“Whether you are a beginning musky angler or seasoned veteran, we have something for you.”
Heiting will be joined by northwoods guides Rob Manthei of St. Germain and Will Buhler of Rhinelander.
The seminar schedule (with a description of each seminar) is as follows:
9 a.m. — Catch (And Release) Your First Musky — Shorten your learning curve and find out which waters provide your best odds of catching a musky. Whether you’re seeking your first musky or your hundredth, many of the same principles apply.
10 a.m. — Northwoods Musky Patterns Through The Season — Muskies have two concerns in life: procreating and eating. Learn how to find muskies early and then know where they will be as the season progresses.
11 a.m. — Where Will We Fish Today? — Learn the considerations musky guides follow each morning when they select the lake they will fish.
Noon — Lunch
12:30 p.m. — Dissecting Northwoods Musky Waters — An in-depth discussion of a handful of northwoods lakes.
1:30 p.m. — Turn Follows Into Photos — Muskies have the confounding habit of following lures. This seminar addresses tricks that go beyond the figure-8 to get followers to bite.
2:30 p.m. — Effective Livebait Presentations — Livebait is an great technique for catching muskies, particularly in the fall. Learn the latest presentation methods to catch your fall giant.
3:30 p.m. – Question and answer session with the presenters.
Cost is $75 for the one-day session. Lunch, a booklet with seminar outlines, and a chance at door prizes are included in the registration fee.
